Church Briefs: July 11, 2024

On Sunday, July 21, at 11 a.m. Antioch Baptist Church in Saluda will have its annual Youth Day program. Minister Larrine Goins will bring the morning message along with a special musical guest.

“Please join us as we celebrate our youth,” an Antioch rep urged.


Immanuel Baptist Church, Saluda, will celebrate its annual homecoming on Sunday, July 28, at 10 a.m.

Dr. Valerie C. Matthews of Charles City will be the guest preacher at the 10 a.m. service. Dinner will be served following the morning service. There will be no afternoon service.
Music is under the direction of Brother Leon Harris.

Revival services will be offered Tuesday-Thursday, July 30-Aug. 1. The Rev. Dr. Robert Diggs, pastor of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Petersburg, will  be the revivalist.
Praise and Worship will begin at 7 p.m., the service will begin at 7:30 p.m. and The Preached Word is at 8 p.m.

Music will be provided by various singing groups.

The Rev. Dr. Alvin Gresham, associate minister of St. Luke Baptist Church, Plum Point, will be the guest preacher at the 11 a.m. service. Dinner will be served following the morning service. There will be no afternoon service. Music is under the direction of Brother Leon Harris.

Music will be provided by: Tuesday, Make-A-Way and Deliverance Full Gospel Church Male Chorus; Wednesday, Good Hope Baptist Church Gospel Chorus; Thursday, Total Praise; and Friday, TBA.


Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) in Christchurch had a very busy month of June. Members of the church were involved in the Fine Arts Camp, the Robotics Camp, and their rector’s (Fr. Stuart Wood) retirement celebration. Fr. Stuart’s last sermon was on Sunday, June 30. He will be greatly missed.

Upcoming activities include the collection of school supplies for students in the community, participation in “Wings, Wheels, and Keels” on Sept. 28, and participation in “One Community Under God” on Oct. 6.

Its newest event will be offered on Sunday, Sept. 8, at noon. The church’s annual homecoming potluck luncheon will be offered to welcome back former members who live out of town, current members and new members.

You are invited to the summer worship at Bethpage Camp-Resort on Sunday, July 14, at 9 a.m. The speaker will be the Rev. Mark Miller of Urbanna United Methodist Church. The music will be provided by Jubal, a local worship band. Fellowship will be offered at the Bethpage amphitheater; if it is raining, it will move to Bethpage’s rally center.

Urbanna Baptist Church has been hosting the annual campground worship for 43 summers. Campers, local visitors and all Middlesex County members are welcome. Dress is casual.

Congregants at Lower United Methodist Church (LUMC), 120 Lower Church Road, Hartfield, hope everyone will join them for their casual worship service and Breakfast with Friends event this Sunday. They will gather in the fellowship hall at 9:30 a.m. for breakfast at 9:45 a.m.

They’ll remain in the hall for worship at 10:30 a.m. Sue Hardman will be the guest speaker.
Everyone is invited to join them each Wednesday for a time of group prayer beginning at 5 p.m.

Come celebrate Family and Friends Day at Zion Branch Baptist Church, Saluda, at noon on Sunday, July 14. The guest speaker will be Minister Viola Holland of Colerain, N.C. They look forward to seeing you there.

Escobrook Baptist Church in King and Queen County will celebrate homecoming on Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Arthur K. Roane will bring the Preached Word for the morning. Dinner will be served immediately following the morning worship.

The afternoon service will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. John Wright, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Saluda, along with Rev. Dr. Wright’s church family.

A revival is set for Tuesday-Thursday, August 6-8. Speakers include, Tuesday, Elder Alexander Parsons of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Barnsville; Wednesday, the Rev. Virginia Young, pastor of Zion Baptist Church in King and Queen County; and Thursday, Bishop Carlton B. Johnson, pastor of Zion Branch Baptist Church in Saluda.

Everyone is invited to attend.
