Urbanna pool to host competitive events

The water will be churning in the Marshall Community Pool in Urbanna on July 2 at 6 p.m. with the very first swim meet at the brand new pool when the Middlesex Makos take on the Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club Stingrays.

“We are thrilled about having a swim team back in Urbanna,” said Shannon Sears, head coach of the Middlesex Makos. The Makos are a reinvention and hopeful continuation of the Urbanna Barracudas, she explained.

The Makos swim team is open to all swimmers in Middlesex County as well as surrounding areas that don’t have a summer swim team. Team membership is open to ages 4-18, or the summer after high school graduation.

The Makos open their season Thursday, June 27, at 6 p.m. at West Point.

July 2 will be the first of four home meets in Urbanna.

“We invite the community to come out and see all the good work that is being done and the youth that are learning team work, swim skills, dedication, and having a fantastic time doing it,” said Sears.

Swim meets in Urbanna start at 6 p.m. and include:

  • July 2 vs. Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club Stingrays.
  • July 9 vs. Rappahannock River Rats (from Warsaw).
  • July 16 vs. Deltaville Sharks.

The season concludes on July 20, when the Urbanna pool will host the championship of the Middle Peninsula Swim League…
