The Region 1A baseball champion Rappahannock High School Raiders (RHS) of Warsaw defeated Chilhowie High School, 6-5, on June 8 at Kiwanis Field in Salem to win the Class 1 Virginia baseball state title.
The Raiders defeated Auburn, 3-0, in the semifinals to advance to the finals and pounded Surry County in the quarterfinals, 12-0, to move up to the semifinals.
The Lancaster Red Devils lost to Chilhowie on June 7 in the semi-finals, 14-4, to end their season. The Red Devils had defeated Rappahannock County, 4-2, to reach the semifinals.
The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger baseball season ended in May in the semifinals of the Region 1A tournament with a 6-1 loss to the Northumberland Indians.
Softball
The Region 1A softball champs, Lady Raiders lost to Rye Cover, 8-1, in the state semifinals of the Class 1 state tournament. Rappahannock reached the semifinals by defeating the Altavista Combined School Colonels, 15-1, in the quarterfinals.
Tennis
Middlesex High School’s girls tennis team played Rappahannock of Warsaw on May 22 in both semifinal matches. There were no quarterfinal matches due to West Point dropping out of both the singles and doubles tournaments.
