Christchurch School (CCS) celebrated its 103rd graduation exercises on Saturday, May 25, at 9 a.m. on Bell Tower Hill, at the center of the school’s Middlesex County campus, overlooking the Rappahannock River.
Head of School William J. “Billy” Coyle delivered the commencement address. This was the second graduation for Christchurch’s 17th head of school, who began his CCS journey with the 2022-23 school year.
In what has become a CCS tradition, Coyle addressed each of the 51 graduates personally, remarking on the special gifts and talents that each brought to the school community.
Coyle closed by reminding the graduates to “pull your strength from this place, from your experiences here, from that river, and you cannot fail — as you walk away as a graduate of Christchurch School, you do so with confidence and power, knowing that no mountain is too high, and no river is too wide. Continue to be kind, be humble, be grateful, and be thankful.”
He reminded them that no matter what their new college mascot, “in your heart, you will always be a Blue and Orange Fighting Seahorse! God Bless you all.”
Graduates included Progress Award winner Steven John Booker of Gloucester, and Chaplain’s Award winner Cameron Kinnear of Toronto, Canada.
The school’s highest honor, the Bishop’s Award, went to Mercy Duff of Alexandria. The Valedictorian’s Award was earned by Joseph Burke of Berkeley, Calif.
