Middlesex track girls set school records

Three members of the Middlesex High School (MHS) 2024 girls track team broke school records this year as two records fell at the Virginia Class 1 State Track meet last week in Harrisonburg.

Karli Parker

Karli Parker took 11th place in the triple jump, leaping 33 feet — a MHS school record. Parker broke the old school record of 32 feet, 10 inches held by Katherine Campbell set in 2019. Campbell broke the 31 feet, three inch record of Felicia Marsh set in 2011.

Elena Fomin took ninth overall in the pole vault and established a new school record of 7 feet. The pole vault is a relatively new event for girls track and the old record was six feet, six inches, set by Kayla Wills

The third school record this year was in the long jump. Chelsey Holmes leaped 18 feet, two inches at the Tidewater District Championship Track Meet at Charles City High School to break the old 17 feet, eight inch record of Brianna Bagby set in 2017.

At the state track meet, the boys and girls placed eighth overall in team standings with the Lady Chargers scoring 28.5 points and the boys scoring 34.5 points.
