Compass Academy, an extension program of Middlesex High School, has grown a community garden this year and invites all to pick vegetables and herbs, said Danielle Norris, director of Compass Academy and Virtual Learning for Middlesex County Public Schools.
This year Compass Academy students in grades 10 through 12 worked with Danielle Brown, the 4-H youth development educator for Middlesex and Essex counties, to design, research, and grow a variety of vegetables from seed.
The Middlesex County Kiwanis Club made a donation to help create the community garden.
Fresh food
Currently, the community garden offers spinach and herbs which are ready to be picked. Squash, okra, tomatoes, peppers, onions, and carrots are still growing and should be ready in the near future.
