Authorities last week released more details on how a crumpled car came to rest on the front lawn of Urbanna Baptist Church.

On June 2, at 5:19 p.m., Virginia State Police (VSP) Trooper L.J. Houston was dispatched to a single-vehicle crash in Urbanna on Watling Street (Route 1004), just north of Urbanna Road (Route 227), according to Sgt. Jeffrey Teagle of the VSP’s Gloucester office. The vehicle involved was a 2016 Ford Focus and was found to be driven by Zachery Clay Salmon, 21, of Urbanna.

According to authorities, Salmon was traveling west on Watling Street when the Ford ran off the right shoulder, struck a tree, a lamp post, and then a historical sign before coming to rest in front of Urbanna Baptist Church. Speed and alcohol were reportedly both factors in the crash. Salmon was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol as a result of the investigation, a VSP news release said.
