Middlesex softball team ends season with state tourney loss

The Middlesex High School girls varsity softball team finished second in the Region A tournament Thursday, May 30. The Lady Chargers lost to the Rappahannock Raiders of Warsaw, 4-3, in the tournament championship. The Middlesex High School (MHS) softball team’s season came to an end on Tuesday, June 4, when the Charger girls lost at Buffalo Gap High School 4-0 in the first round of the State Class 1 Tournament.

MHS posted a 7-0 win at Essex in the semifinals of the Region A Tournament on May 28.
In the regional final, against Rappahannock of Warsaw on May 30 at Saluda, the Lady Chargers loaded the bases twice against Rappahannock, but came up short 4-3. The second place finish in the regionals earned them a trip to States.

Lady Charger Magen Daniels struck out 10 Lady Raiders, and gave up four earned runs on 11 hits. Lady Charger Courtney Jessie went 2-3 at the plate, stole a base, and scored two runs.

The Lady Chargers (15-6-1) will lose just one player, Candice Brown, to graduation.
