MHS track girls win region crown; boys place second

The Middlesex High School girls track team won the Region A track championship and the boys were runners-up in team competition on Wednesday, May 22, at Charles City High School.

The Lady Chargers scored 126 points to beat second place Rappahannock of Warsaw with 105.5 points. Northampton was third in the meet with 77 points; Charles City, fourth, 62; Lancaster, fifth, 59; Northumberland, sixth, 48.5; Westmoreland, seventh, 46; West Point, eighth, 38; Mathews, tied for ninth, 29; King & Queen Central, tied for ninth, 29; and Essex, 10th, 5.5 points.

The Lady Chargers were paced in the weight throwing class as Karadee Anderson won the shot put (35’ .05”) and Geriyah Cooke won the discus with a 105’ throw.

Red Devils win boys region title

Lancaster won the boys Region A track championships scoring 133 points. The Middlesex Chargers were second with 111.5 points; Mathews, third, 105.5 points; Northumberland, fourth, 102; West Point, fifth, 55.5; Rappahannock, sixth, 44; Essex, seventh, 36; King & Queen Central, eighth, 33; Chincoteague, ninth, 11; Westmoreland, 10th, 9; and Northampton, 11th, 5.5 points.

The Chargers were paced by JaQuan Griffin who won the triple jump (47’ .05”) and finished second in the long jump (20’ 6”).
