Church Briefs: May 16, 2024

Immanuel Baptist Church, Saluda, recently announced plans to celebrate its Women’s Day event at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 19. Sister Sheila Pleasants, First Lady of Calvary Baptist Church, Saluda, will be the event’s guest speaker. Its theme is “Women Still Standing On His Promises.” Music will be under the direction of Brother Leon Harris.
“Join us as we praise God for another year,” an event rep said.


All Middlesex County community residents, visitors and campers of Bethpage Camp-Resort are invited to the Sunday worship service on May 19. The time to gather is 9 a.m. at the campground amphitheater. In case of dismal weather, service will be conducted in the Bethpage Rally Center. Dress is casual.

The Rev. Dr. John Wright of Immanuel Baptist Church will address the gathering. Jubal, a Middlesex County worship band, will provide the music. Bethpage is located at 4685 Old Virginia St., just outside of Urbanna.

Apostle Carlton D. Johnson, of Dallas, Texas, will preach the noon service this Sunday, May 19, at Zion Branch Baptist Church, Saluda.


Zion Hill Baptist Church, 10256 Indian Road, Gloucester, will have in-person worship service on Sunday, May 19, at 11 a.m. Pastor Eugene Comithier II will preach and the Inspirational Voices will sing. In-person Sunday school will be offered at 9:45 a.m.

Zion Hill will celebrate its 151st anniversary at 3:30 p.m. Dr. Rodney D. Waller and First African Baptist Church, Richmond, will be the guest. Dinner will be served from 1:30-2:45 p.m.

Bible study will be offered on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. via conference call. The dial-in number is 978-990-5000 and the access code is 667896.


Hermitage Baptist Church, 94 Ware’s Bridge Road in Church View, will have a free community barbecue meal and groceries giveaway event 5-6:30 p.m. today, Thursday, May 16. You can eat the meal or the groceries there or drive through and have the event volunteers load up your car. It is a gift to the church’s neighbors because the church loves them.

Its Vacation Bible School (VBS) registration is now open. Hermitage VBS runs 6:30-8:30 p.m. nightly July 7-12.

Lower United Methodist Church (LUMC) at 120 Lower Church Road, Hartfield, welcomes all to its Sunday worship service at 10:30 a.m.

The Women of Make-A-Way and Deliverance Full Gospel Baptist Church, Woman of Worth (WOW), will host its annual Women’s Weekend Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19. The church is located at 100 Flats Road in Urbanna.
The church’s annual Women’s Tea is set for May 18. The speaker will be Co-pastor Kimberly Scott from Union Shiloh Baptist Church near Church View.
On May 19 at 11 a.m., preaching will be Make-A-Way’s own pastor, the Rev. Edna Ransom. The 3 p.m. afternoon speaker will be the Rev. Rose Jarvis from Gloucester.
“Please come out and enjoy a weekend with the WOW women,” a Make-A-Way rep said.
Make-A-Way and Deliverance Full Gospel Baptist Church will host its 25th church anniversary celebration on Sunday, May 26, at 3 p.m. The afternoon guest pastor ministering God’s Word will be Bishop Carlton Johnson and his congregation from Zion Branch Baptist Church in Saluda.


“Raise Your Voice” is the theme for Harmony Grove Baptist Church’s Human Trafficking Seminar set for 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, in the church’s fellowship hall. Light refreshments will follow the presentation. All are welcome.

The church is located at 7722 General Puller Highway (Route 33) in Harmony Village.

Join them as they take a walk to learn and help spread awareness.

Immanuel Baptist Church, Saluda, will present a one night revival at 7 p.m. today Thursday, May 16.

The Preached Word will be delivered by Elder Hilda Dunn of St. Paul Baptist Church, Jamaica.

Music will be provided by the Mathews Gloucester Male Chorus under the direction of Sister Lee Rice.

“Come enjoy a night of Praise and Worship,” said a spokesman for the event, which is sponsored by the Women of Immanuel.
