Team to play last home game Monday
This season may not be the greatest one in the history of the Middlesex High School Lady Chargers soccer program. At press time, the squad was 0-7-1, according to the MaxPreps.com website.
However, this year’s team has put in a good fight in almost every game it has played, according to its head coach, Kayla Stearns. “Although the scoreboard may not show a win, these girls come off the field with a win every game with their determination and hard work to do the best they can for that 80 minutes,” Coach Stearns said in an email to the Sentinel. “Most of the girls have been moved to new spots this season and though it may have been hard at first, they found their position and give it all they have.”
Coach Kayla Stearns offered the following examples:
• Karli Parker, a striker, has scored every goal this season for the girls. Not only does she score the goals, but she also will drop way back into the midfield area to help when she sees her team needs her.
• Javonya Chandler, a defender, puts up some of the toughest fights on the field. The games could be drastically different without a great goalie as our last line of defense.
• Bethany Withers is an incredible goalie who has made countless saves this season keeping the score much lower than it really could have been. She is currently training Makayla Moore, who has stepped up to come from striker to goalie. She has only one game under her belt, but ended up saving half the goals that were shot at her and we have no doubt that there she will have plenty of saves.
