Spring is here and that means the ninth annual Plein Air Unleashed outdoor painting event by Allure Art returns next week, April 29-May 4 across Middlesex County.

This free six-day event is one of the largest gatherings of plein air painters in the state each year, featuring award-winning fine artists from across Virginia and Maryland. The artists spend the week in the Middle Peninsula painting our beautiful scenery “en plein air.” This “en plein air” method is most often associated with the famous impressionist painters like Monet and Renoir.

Be on the lookout next week for artists set up across Middlesex County painting at more than 35 locations from Monday to Saturday. Organizers encourage the public to come out and see the art in action. There will be six scheduled free public opportunities to see the painters working:

  • Monday, April 29, from 2-5 p.m., Joseph Burrough will be painting in the vicinity of the Deltaville Ballpark.
  • Wednesday, May 1, from 9-11 a.m., Thomas Bradshaw will be painting in the vicinity of Hurd’s Hardware in Deltaville and Jennifer Young will be painting at the Deltaville Maritime Museum from 2-5 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 2, from 9 a.m.-noon, Marjorie Perrin will be painting at the Urbanna Town Marina and Kim Hall will be painting near Chesapeake Inn along Urbanna’s Main St. from 2-5 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., a few of the artists will be painting in the vicinity of the Deltaville Community Association building during the exhibit of the works.

All demos are weather dependent.
