MHS tennis players Bruce, Stuart, Slider get singles victories

Middlesex High School’s girls tennis team (0-5) fell to Northampton 5-3 in April 22 home action. Despite the team’s loss, there were three individual wins for the Charger girls. No. 2 player Hailey Bruce defeated her Yellow Jacket girl opponent in a hard-fought, exciting 10-6 tiebreaking set after splitting the first two sets 1-6 and 6-4. No. 4 player Rori Stuart won her sets in convincing fashion, 6-1 and 6-1. No. 5 player Mia Slider had her first varsity singles win, downing her opponent 6-2 and 6-2.

Other Middlesex singles results include, no. 1 Meeha Ferris, loss, 6-7, 3-6; no. 3 Anna Crown, loss, 6-7, 6-4, 5-10 (tiebreaker); no. 6 Kamryn Friday, loss, 4-6, 1-6.

Middlesex doubles results include, no. 1 Ferris-Bruce, loss, 4-6, 2-6; no. 2 Crown-Stuart, 4-8; and no. 3 Slider-Friday, match stopped due to light loss (the MHS courts lack lights). At the time of stoppage, the score had MHS on top, 8-7.

It was the second time this season Middlesex played Northampton.

Middlesex High School’s girls tennis team played Rappahannock at Rappahannock Community College’s Warsaw campus on April 15. The Charger girls fell to the Raider girls, 5-0.
