Jack Duane Tarran, 90, of Urbanna, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024, at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Helen S. Tarran; and son, John Andrew Tarran.
Jack was born in Illinois and left when he was a teenager to live with his mother and finish out high school in Detroit, Mich.
Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served his country for 20 years. During his time in the Navy, his tours included Korea and Vietnam.
After retiring from the Navy, Jack started working for the EPA in Washington, D.C., and later worked for the Veterans Administration.
Mr. Tarron was able to take an early retirement and was content with playing golf, gardening, and chores around his home in Vienna. In 1992, when his wife, Helen, retired, they packed up and moved to Urbanna, where they had a house built. They were both very active members of Christ Church and Mr. Tarron was on the vestry. Jack was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Middlesex. He and his wife Helen would work the booths for Christ Church, Kiwanis Club and the Woman’s Club. Jack was also a member of the Piankatank River Golf Club for many years where he and friends would play every week. Jack will be missed dearly by friends and family.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. on Friday, April 19 at Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) in Christchurch with the Rev. Stuart Clary Wood officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 18 from 4-6 p.m. at Bristow -Faulkner Funeral Home.
