The Middlesex High varsity softball team recorded four wins in recent action against Essex, Colonial Beach, West Point, and a forfeit win over Lancaster. The Lady Chargers are 6-1 at press time after beginning district play with a win over visiting West Point.
Middlesex 2, Essex 1
Middlesex and Essex locked up in a pitchers duel on March 19 in Saluda. Lady Charger pitcher Magen Daniels went the distance in the circle allowing no earned runs on seven hits, while striking out 12. Middlesex would strike first in the bottom of the third.
Carly Jessie led off with a walk, stole second base and Pollie Hammond delivered an RBI single up the middle scoring Carly Jessie. Essex would answer back in the top of the fourth, scoring on a bobbled ball in the Middlesex outfield.
With two strikes and two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Chelsey Holmes singled to center. Holmes would steal second on the next pitch. Libby Oliver then came through with the game winning blow, an RBI double through the left side scoring Holmes for the eventual winning run.
Middlesex 20, Colonial Beach 3
The Lady Charger offense erupted on March 21 in Saluda, collecting 22 hits in the five-inning contest. Candice Brown had a huge day at the plate for the Lady Chargers, collecting four hits and seven RBIs, including a three-run home run off the top of the scoreboard behind the centerfield wall.
Middlesex 0, Rappahannock 4
The Lady Chargers suffered their first loss of the season to Rappahannock on March 25 in Warsaw. The Lady Raider pitcher held the Lady Chargers to only three hits in the contest.
Middlesex got a forfeit win over Lancaster on March 29.
Middlesex is scheduled to play at Charles City today, Thursday, April 11, at 5 p.m.; at King William on April 16 at 6 p.m.; and host King and Queen Central on April 18 at 5 p.m.
