Cooks Corner bldg.’s low bid on sherrif’s office rehab: $3.3 million

Sealed bids were opened on Friday, March 22, that revealed a $3.3 million low bid for restoration of the Lewis B. Puller building at Cooks Corner into a new headquarters for the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office.

Middlesex County Administrator Matt Walker informed the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) at a final 2024 budget work session of the bid opening on Monday.
“We are pleasantly surprised at the amount of the low bid and the second lowest bid was right at $3.6 million,” said Walker. “We all thought it could go over $5 million and the high bid was over $5 million.”

The “invitation for bids” reads that “the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office project is being developed by Middlesex County and generally consists of the renovation of the existing 10,420 square foot building and supporting the 2.88-acre site infrastructure” at Cooks Corner.

Walker would not reveal the company that submitted the low bid until the bidder has been properly vetted to make sure all requirements related to the bid are met. It was also noted that the cost of installing technology for the sheriff’s office is not included in the bid.
