The “spring cleaning” of Old Virginia Street (Route 602) is set for Saturday, March 23, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

It’s part of “The Great Middlesex Green Up,” sponsored by Keep Middlesex Beautiful, VDOT, and Middlesex County.

The plan is to pick up roadside trash from Urbanna to Middlesex Metals. A minimum of nine volunteers and three pick-up trucks with drivers is needed.

If more volunteers turnout the effort could go further towards U.S. Route 17, said Tom Maffey, one of the organizers.

To volunteer, email Alice Maffey at alice.maffey@gmail.com.

Teams will assemble at 8:30 a.m. March 23 at Urbanna Town Hall at 390 Old Virginia St. Each three-person team will pick up both sides of one mile of road.
