Dale Taylor is one of the oldest residents of the Town of Urbanna and on Friday night 20 family members and friends celebrated his 94th birthday at a dinner at Angelo’s Colonial Pizza in Urbanna. When asked how he feels to be 94 years old, he said, “It didn’t feel any different than being in my 80s.”

Taylor is a Deltaville native who now lives on Howard Street in Urbanna. He has a maritime heritage as his grandfather was Capt. David Andrew Taylor Sr., who was a sailing schooner captain and vessel owner.

In 1977, Dale Taylor and his mate, Watson Burroughs, received statewide recognition when they rescued eight men off a sinking tugboat. The tug, Caroline, sank off Deltaville near Stingray Point Lighthouse.

He was also married to the late Urbanna Mayor Beatrice Payne Taylor, who co-owned Payne’s Crab House with her sister Catherine Walton Via — the two were icons of the Urbanna area.

Everyone at the party wished Dale a very happy birthday and enjoyed his ever present smile.

Happy birthday Dale Taylor from the entire community!
