Middlesex Supervisors gave a green light to the Middle Peninsula Regional Planning District Commission (MPRPDC) Tuesday, Feb. 6, to move forward with the work required for an application to dredge Broad Creek in Deltaville.
MPRPDC Deputy Director Curt Smith was directed by Middlesex supervisors, including Supervisors Chairman Don Harris, to move forward and “run back to your deck” and get the RFP out on the street right away, said D. Harris.
The design of the project will fall under two separate dredge plans, said Smith. The first phase is to spot dredge shoal areas outside of the Army Corps of Engineers designated channel.
The second phase of the dredge project is dredging within the 100-foot wide by seven-foot deep designated federal channel.
“The entire channel and shoal areas will need to be sampled to determine the volume of materials to be removed and to determine if there are any contaminated materials,” said Smith.
“We hope to get the RFP out by the end of this month (February) and hopefully have a contract in March for the sampling and design work…”
