Five-day project starts Feb. 26
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin a week of routine bridge maintenance activities on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River starting Monday, Feb. 26, and continuing through Friday, March 1.
From 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day, Route 3 will be reduced to a single lane on a portion of the bridge, weather permitting. Message boards will be posted at both bridge approaches to alert travelers to the work zone.
Drivers can expect brief daytime delays crossing the bridge between Middlesex and Lancaster counties, said VDOT Fredericksburg District Senior Communications Specialist Darragh Frye.
Automated flagging devices will direct traffic through the work zone. Flagging crew members operate the devices, which can be rapidly adjusted to respond to congestion or incidents on the bridge.
