Deltaville resident John Weidner will present on “Risky Science Across Borders” at the next Deltaville Great Decisions lecture at 10 a.m.-noon Friday, Feb. 23, at the Deltaville Community Association building, 17147 General Puller Highway.
In the global political and scientific debate over how humanity should respond to our worsening climate emergency, the large-scale deployment of atmospheric geo-engineering techniques has been suggested as a way to lower global temperatures. In bringing science from the theoretical to practical application, experiments that are in themselves risky will be needed to understand the consequences of trying something that has never been done before.
When the decision to conduct an experiment could affect everyone on the planet, who will decide and how should they be guided? These questions and more will be framed and discussed during Weidner’s presentation.
To learn more about each topic the 2024 Great Decisions briefing book provides an article written by prominent experts on each topic and a reading copy is available at the Deltaville and Urbanna branches of the Middlesex County Public Library system.
There is free admission to the program, but donations to buy the break’s cookies are welcomed.
