Middlesex Co. crash injures seven — some seriously

Seven people were injured in a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on General Puller Highway (Route 33) just east of Mill Creek Road, reported Sgt. Michelle Anaya, public information officer with the Virginia State Police (VSP).

According to Sgt. Anaya, on Feb. 12, at 4:53 p.m., VSP Trooper M.A. Yowell was dispatched to a three-vehicle crash. Both the east and west bound lanes of Route 33 were completely blocked at the crash scene.

The three vehicles involved were a 2007 Honda Civic, a 2014 Subaru Outback, and a 2007 Toyota Tundra. Authorities’ preliminary investigation revealed the Honda struck the rear of the Subaru that was stopped in the eastbound lane of Route 33 due to additional traffic ahead. After striking the Subaru, the Honda then struck the Toyota that was traveling west on Route 33.

The driver of the Honda was identified as Taylor Mae Moore, 30, of Hardyville. Moore was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries sustained in the crash. Two female juvenile passengers, ages 10 and 5, that were in the Honda were transported for injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Subaru was identified as Ann Regan Wynne, 43, of Deltaville, and was transported due to injuries sustained in the crash. There were no passengers in the Subaru.

The driver of the Toyota pickup was identified as Donna Jean Ashby, 48, of Deltaville, and was transported due to injuries sustained in the crash. Two male passengers, ages 43 and 10, were also in the Toyota and were transported due to the injuries they sustained in the crash also.

The Medevac helicopter was not able to fly due to weather. Patients with more serious injuries were transported to trauma centers in Richmond or Newport News by ambulance. Rescue squads from Mathews, Gloucester and Lancaster provided mutual aid.

The Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad responded, as did the Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department and the Lower Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department.

Route 33 was re-opened in both directions at 6:24 p.m.

The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been placed as of Tuesday. Speed and alcohol were not factors in this crash, said Sgt. Anaya.
