MHS BASKETBALL DOWNS MORE TIDEWATER FOES

The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity boys basketball team (14-2, 10-2) defeated two Tidewater District foes last week, Charles City, 77-65, on Tuesday, Jan. 30, and West Point, 80-46 on Friday, Feb. 2.

Against the Panthers, three outstanding Chargers scored 71 of the total 77 points scored by MHS in the game. JaQuan Griffin and Malik Dandy scored 24 points apiece and Ichi Layne had 23 points.

The trio put on an offensive clinic scoring most of the points from the 2-point range. The only 3-pointers came from J. Griffin and Layne who had 3 points each. Others to score in the game were Davonte Griffin, Shane Glenn and Cameron Lambert, who had 2 points apiece.

Against the West Point Pointers, nine players scored for the Chargers. J. Griffin and Dandy led the scoring for MHS with 19 points each. Layne and Lambert were also in double figures scoring 16 and 12 points respectively.

Others to score were Nathan Powell, 5 points; Jonathan Oliver, 4 points; K.J. Burrell and D. Griffin, 2 points each and Dylan Akers scored a point.
