The Middlesex County Public Library (MCPL) system is pleased to announce a presentation, “Citizen Science, Birding, and Virginia” at MCPL’s Deltaville branch library on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. It will be followed by light refreshments, along with a bird count event on the library grounds. The presentation will be given by Master Naturalist Jeff Wright.
The presentation will explore some of the newest and best projects people can undertake to support birds, food chains and habitat. It will also discuss birding tools and applied technologies that are important to Citizen Science.
One of the most high-profile projects is the Great Backyard Bird Count. “Counting birds helps science and is a fun activity,” Jeff added. The count is a global project aimed at tallying bird populations, relying on ordinary citizens to observe and report their numbers over the period of a few days.
