Mardi Gras masks are an essential part of the carnival season. The tradition of wearing masks during Mardi Gras dates back to the 18th century. They are typically worn during Mardi Gras parades and balls and are often adorned with feathers, sequins and other decorative elements. According to the official Mardi Gras website, “… when wearing a mask, carnival-goers were free to be whoever they wanted to be, and mingle with whatever class they desired to mingle with.”
So, on Feb. 24, grab your Mardi Gras mask and come to the Middlesex County Mardi Gras celebration at Bethpage Camp-Resort. The celebration is sponsored by the Middlesex County Kiwanis Club. Attendees can be whoever they want to be. All proceeds support Kiwanis programs that benefit the children in the community.
