The Middlesex High School (MHS) boys varsity basketball team (9-4, 6-2) lost a tie for the Tidewater District title Friday, Jan. 19, as Carver College and Career Academy (Carver) defeated MHS for the second time this season as the Wolverines clinched the district title.

The Chargers were in the mix of winning the game right up to the end as MHS was within 2 points with 45 seconds left. Middlesex players committed three turnovers within that time and a Carver player converted a 2-point layup to clinch the, 64-60, win.

Middlesex was paced by Ichi Layne, who scored 23 points, 15 of those coming from long range 3-pointers. Davonte Griffin contributed 14 points. He knocked down three long range 3-pointers from the corners.

Malik Dandy scored 10 points mostly coming from 2-pointers under the basket. JaQuan Griffin scored 7 points; Cameron Lambert, 4 points; and Shane Glenn hit a long-range 2-pointer.
