A 53-year-old Middlesex County female was still missing Tuesday despite efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies that searched the waters in and around LaGrange Creek, reported Major M.E. Sampson of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).
According to Maj. Sampson, the MCSO received a report of a missing woman about 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, and MCSO deputies responded to Remlik Marina, located on LaGrange Creek west of Urbanna. The marina is a little more than a mile from the Rappahannock River.
The MCSO filed a report to the Virginia State Police’s Missing Persons Clearing House. The police site identifies the missing woman as Buffy Marie Moore and described her as white, 6’-1,” 168 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. She is missing a front tooth.
Officers from the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) responded to the marina and checked the area and concluded a target scanner was needed for further investigation. Sonar had indicated something unusual under water.
The Chesapeake Fire and Rescue was called and deployed a remotely operated underwater vehicle with camera and searched the marina area. Nothing was found.
A Virginia Marine Police dive team responded to the scene, but did not dive because the camera did not find anything.
The U.S. Coast Guard Station at Milford Haven in Mathews dispatched a boat to assist in the search.
The search was suspended at 3:20 p.m. Saturday, but continued this week.
A Virginia Marine Police boat searched the shore on Tuesday and deputies continued to check shores from land.
A report has been submitted to the Virginia Missing Persons Clearing House.
Further details could not be released since this is an ongoing investigation, said Maj. Sampson.
