The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) voted unanimously on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at the board’s annual organizational meeting to elect Saluda District Supervisor Don Harris as its chairman.
Harris is replacing Lud Kimbrough from Pinetop District, who went off the board. After his first four-year term ended, Kimbrough opted not to run for re-election. He said he wanted more time to spend with family and grandchildren.
The board also elected Harmony Village Supervisor Reggie Williams as vice chairman. Williams ran unopposed in the November 2023 election for his second term on the board.
The board has two new members, as Bill Harris from the Hartfield District was appointed by the board to replace John Koontz, who moved out of the district and was ineligible to represent Hartfield.
The new Pinetop representative on the board is Randy Crittenden, who defeated Joe Heyman in the November election. Longtime board member and a former board chairman from Jamaica District, Wayne Jessie, was re-elected to the board in November, defeating James W. Evans.
At the organizational meeting the board also voted to continue to meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m and to reconvene to a night meeting when necessary on the same day at 7 p.m.
The board also voted to move the regular monthly meeting in July from July 2 to Tues. July 9 in recognition of Independence Day on July 4. Also, the Nov. 5 regular monthly meeting will be moved to Wednesday, Nov. 6, because of Election Day.
