Carl Douglas “Skip” Isham, 78, passed away in Urbanna in hospice care on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023.
He was born and raised in western Massachusetts and at 18 joined the U.S. Navy, where he served in Vietnam earning elite status as a UDT “Frogman” and member of SEAL Team Two. He retired from active military service with disabilities, initially residing in Virginia Beach to maintain his SEAL Team ties.
In 1980, he relocated to Urbanna, where he found a lifelong community of people who share his love for sailing, ship building, and nautical history.
He was married in a unique ceremony aboard the clipper ship Pride of Baltimore during its historic visit to Urbanna.
Skip was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, and is survived by two daughters, extended family, and many friends.
His wish to be buried at sea will be fulfilled by the Neptune Society and the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum.
