Emma Jane Key Johnson, 94, received her heavenly wings on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023 at her residence in Saluda.
She was born on Feb. 9, 1929 in Middlesex County to the late Martha Ann Goldman Key and Randolph Key Sr.
Emma received Christ at an early age and joined Calvary Baptist Church. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late James Edward Johnson for 75 years and to this union seven children were born.
She worked at Barnhart Duck Farm and Crittenden Tomato Factory for many years. She also was a homemaker and was a member of the Homemakers Club of Middlesex. She loved growing flowers and vegetables. Everyone enjoyed her cooking, including her homemade rolls and lemon meringue pie. Emma won first place in the cooking contest for her homemade rolls at Calvary.
Emma leaves to cherish her memories Frauline (George) Robinson of Topping, James (Patricia) Johnson of Richmond, Shirley LaVallais of Highland Springs, Emory (Diane) Johnson of Saluda, Marcellus Johnson, Nancy Cannon, Terry (Pamela) Johnson of Richmond; one godson, James Curtis of Saluda; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 at Calvary Baptist Church, Saluda. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Service of comfort is entrusted to J.K. Redmond Funeral Home.
