The newest Middlesex County deputy sheriff is retired Marine Sergeant Major Christopher J. Easter, whose retirement ceremony was conducted in Saluda last week at the former home of Marine legend Chesty Puller.

Sergeant Major Easter

Easter joined the Marine Corps in 1996 and spent 27 years as a Marine. He was deployed in 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a platoon sergeant with Charlie Company. In 2011, he was deployed to Afghanistan under Operation Enduring Freedom. His final orders were in 2020, when he served as regimental sergeant major for Marine Corps Security Force Regiment, Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, until he retired last week.

At the ceremony, Easter encouraged young Marines to consider making the Marine Corps a career. Easter has been married to his wife Rachel for 19 years and they have three boys and three girls. During the ceremony, Marine ushers passed out flowers to the family.

“I want to thank my wife Rachel and my children for their support over the years and for supporting me in this new journey as a deputy sheriff for the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO),” he said.
