When Thomas F. “Doc” Marshall Sr. and Lucy Hostinger Marshall moved to Urbanna with their two small sons Tommy and Richard in 1929, it was the start of a generational success story based in part on a dedicated investment in social and community capital that overtime has made the Town of Urbanna and Middlesex County a better place.
Whether Urbanna needed a town doctor, a town plumber, an ace pitcher for the semi-pro town baseball team in the 1940s, a prescription filled at 3 a.m. in the morning, or in bad weather years, dollars to keep the Urbanna Oyster Festival going the next year, the Marshalls made sure all these things and more happened.
Urbanna Town Council voted unanimously recently to name the new town community pool after the Marshall family to publicly honor family members who have passed and to thank those who are here today for continuing that family legacy. The $1.1 million pool at Taber Park is scheduled to open spring 2024.
“The Marshall family has been part of the underlying fabric of the town of Urbanna for decades,” said Urbanna Mayor Bill Goldsmith. “Their dedication to this town for generations made them a clear choice for the honor of having the new pool named after them.”
