Chargers boast a big boatload of returnees

The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger basketball team (1-1) got its first win of the 2023-2024 season, Friday, Dec. 1, with a 72-49 victory over the Chincoteague Ponies. The Chargers lost to Franklin High School, 67-44, on Saturday, Dec. 2.

MHS is coming off a successful 2022-2023 season as the Chargers made it to Virginia High School League Boys State brackets last season, losing to the Altavista Combined School Colonels, 78-57, in the first round of the Class 1 state tournament.

MHS Head Coach Curt Williamson has four strong returning players from last year’s team. JaQuan Griffin, Malik Dandy, Itchi Layne and Cameron Lambert were all players who saw lots of playing time last year.
