Our loving husband, father, and Pop Pop, Peter J. Olenick III, 76, of Williamsburg, peacefully passed away on Thursday, Nov 30, 2023 and we just know that he is finding us the perfect fishing spot.
Pete was born on May 22, 1947, to Peter and Elizabeth Olenick in Washington, D.C.
Pete grew up on the Naval base in Dahlgren, played football for King George High School, and attended Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina.
Upon returning home after graduation, he married Mary Frances Krystofik, the love of his life. He received his master’s degree in education administration from SUNY Cortland and, eventually, they settled in the Northern Neck of Virginia to raise their three daughters.
Pete loved being an educator and spent 20 years in the Lancaster County public school system as a beloved principal. In his later years, he co-founded a financial planning business, PORT Financial Services, where he assisted educators in planning for their retirement.
A founding member of the Rotary Club in Middlesex County, Pete believed in doing all that you could for others. There is no doubt that he was a faithful man of God and a devout Catholic. He was a forever fan of the Washington Commanders and loved to cheer on the Nationals. He loved to work on his golf game and feed all the birds in the backyard (while fighting with the squirrels). Texas Hill Country brisket, Pennsylvania coal country, and Chesapeake Bay breezes will forever remind us of him.
Pete is predeceased by his parents, and survived by Mary Frances, his loving wife; adoring daughters, Mary Jo Brunner (Thomas), Rachel Oney (Eric), and Katie Zeytoonian (Daniel); his devoted sister, Mary Beth Carter (Dee); and his loving grandchildren, Joe, Max, and Sam Brunner, Amber and Lucy Oney, Lance, Peter, and Charlie Zeytoonian; and a host of beloved relatives and friends.
Pete was always ready to greet you with a hearty handshake, great big belly laugh, or a bear hug, and so, in his honor, the family will receive guests for visitation at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Tuesday, Dec. 5 from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6 at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Norge. A private burial will follow in King George. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Hospice House of Williamsburg (www.williamsburghospice.org), which provided exceptional care. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.com.
