It is with great sorrow that the family of Christine Gauldin Major, 94, announces her passing on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023.
Chris was born on Feb. 22, 1929 in Danville to William Everett and Hilda Minter Gauldin.
She is predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Calvin Flood Major; her parents; and her brothers, James Thomas Gauldin and Clyde Neal Gauldin.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Scott Major; and daughters, Robin Major McClaine (Lee) and Kimberly Major Cunningham (Jack); grandchildren, Seth McClaine (Heather), Jami Gelineau Bohdan (Jason), Mallory McClaine Trowbridge (Caleb), Cori Major, Hannah, Jack, and Chloe Cunningham; six great-grandchildren, Easton, Camden, Rowan, and Kylan Trowbridge, Josie Bohdan, and Luca McClaine; and two nephews, Clyde Neal Gauldin Jr. and James Thomas Gauldin Jr.
She graduated from Madison College (now James Madison University) and served her dietetic internship at the Medical College of Virginia (MCV). She worked as a dietitian at MCV and Richmond Public Schools before retiring to the career she had always dreamed of, that of wife and mother.
She was a longtime member of Crestwood Presbyterian Church, where she served in many capacities. She loved spending her summers in Deltaville with family and friends in the cabin she built with Calvin. She was a guiding light in the lives of many and is remembered for her selflessness, wisdom, and life lessons. This world is a better place because of the unconditional love, laughter, and kindness that she so abundantly shared. Her family was the absolute joy of her life and her faith in God, its stronghold.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Dec. 17 at Lakewood Retirement Community, 1900 Lauderdale Drive, Richmond.
