James Owen Stellwagen, 75, of Urbanna, passed away at home Monday, Nov. 24, 2023.
He was born Aug. 22, 1948, in Queens, N.Y.
Jim is survived by his wife of 38 years, Janet R. Stellwagen; his loving mother and father, Patricia G. and Marvin E. Russell of Urbana; his stepmother, Georgianna Stellwagen of New York; his son, Chad A. Stellwagen of Severn,
Md.; his daughters, Jenny I. McMurtrie (T.G. McMurtrie) and Patty I. Larson (Erik S. Larson); his grandchildren, Russell M. McMurtrie, Thomas J. McMurtrie, Patrick L. Larson, and Simon E. Larson; his sister and brother, Susan R. Prugh and Dr. Reed D. Prugh; niece, Katherine P. Johnson (Jeremiah); nephews, Daniel R. Prugh (Jen) and Stephen C. Prugh (Laura); and many great nieces and nephews. Also, special cousins, Jean Garnett and Raymond Kostesky.
Mr. Stellwagen is proceeded in death by his mother, Dorothy Drugan; his father, Warren F. Stellwagen; and his sister, Cynthia S. Bellarmino.
Jim dearly loved his family, children, and his grandsons. His happiest days were always spent with his family either at the beach, laughing in the pool, smiling around the dinner table, rooting for the New York Yankees or being a true barbecue master on his back deck. Jim loved his county and was a true community participant. He was an active member of the Middlesex Kiwanis and served as treasurer. He served Trinity Lutheran Church in Urbana and was a former E.M.T. for Middlesex County.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30 at Bristow Faulkner Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Kiwanis Club of Middlesex, P.O. Box 314, Urbanna, VA 23175.
