Come celebrate the beginning of the Advent and the Christmas season by joining in joyous singing! The community is invited to join members of Urbanna United Methodist Church on Friday, Dec. 1, 5-7 p.m. in the church parking lot on Marston Avenue. There will be plenty of free hot chili, hot dogs cooked over hot fire pits, hot chocolate, and hot cider to keep all warm as everybody sings familiar carols. Bring a chair and sit around the fire where you can sing or listen. The food, fellowship and fun are all free!

The Middlesex County Literary Union Executive Board will meet on Monday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Saluda.

A free string quartet program, “The Christmas Story Told With Music” will be presented by Strings and Things at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3 at Urbanna Baptist Church at 121 Watling St. The program will include music representing the nativity story from the old testament prophesies through the music that gives meaning to Christmas in the modern world.

Strings and Things is a network of 20 to 25 professionally trained musicians in coastal and central Virginia. Members typically play for weddings, receptions, parties, and performances in duet, trio, or quartet combinations. The membership represents a variety of instrumentation, including violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, trumpet, and keyboard. For information, visit www.stringdandthings.org.


Zoar Baptist Church in Deltaville hosts a women’s Bible study group on Mondays at 11 a.m. The Bible book, Revelation, is the focus of the study.

The Foundry is a new youth center for middle school and high school students, located at 7962 General Puller Highway, Unit 603, in Topping.

Exciting things are happening at Zoar Baptist Church in Deltaville. They have several studies in progress. One is for parents at night and another is a ladies Bible study during the day. “Fourteen Gospel Principles that Can Radically Change Your Family, Parenting” by Paul David Tripp is the book they are currently studying. They meet every Wednesday night from 6:30-7:30 p.m. They can also “Zoom you in” if you are unable to attend in person. The Ladies Bible Study meets at 11 a.m. every Wednesday in the fellowship hall and discusses Julie P. Fitchuk’s, “Revelations.” Call the office at 804-776-9502 if you are interested in either of these studies.

Every Wednesday night the Community Youth Group meets in the fellowship hall from 6-8 p.m. They are served dinner, have game time and study verses in the Bible after watching a video. All sixth through 12th graders are welcome to join the group. They currently have 20-30 teens participating. This coming Wednesday they will have a pumpkin carving contest.
