The Middlesex County Public Library (MCPL) system’s presentation, “Preparing for Medicare,” by Laura Bondurant, is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 at MCPL’s Urbanna branch. The presentation will address topics surrounding enrollment and the various parts of Medicare plans. Q&A time will follow and light refreshments will be served.
Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older, although it is available in some cases for younger people with disabilities. As of 2022, more than 65 million people were enrolled. Medicare coverage is divided into four parts — known as Parts A,B,C and D — each of which addresses a different aspect of patient treatment ranging from hospital (Plan A) to self-administered prescription drugs (Plan D). Additional plans, like Medicare Advantage and Medigap, provide more complex coverage options. Though an integral part of the healthcare system, the complexities surrounding Medicare mean that many people enter it without being properly informed or knowing how to take full advantage of the options Medicare has to offer.
Bondurant’s presentation will address the above mentioned A,B,C’s and D of Medicare, and what each part covers. She will also talk about enrollment, including tips to prepare for enrollment, the different types available, and enrollment periods. The presentation will also touch on the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medigap plans, the 2024 premiums, and how to pay.
Bondurant professionally helps people navigate the ins-and-outs of Medicare and Social Security. With almost 30 years experience in employee benefits management and administration, she is a licensed life and health insurance agent, representing clients when they begin Medicare benefits and helping those that need to move to a different plan. She gave a talk at the Urbanna library earlier this year on Social Security, which drew record attendance and was enthusiastically received by attendees.
