Urbanna Oyster Festival shucking stars celebrated

Robert Minor and Deborah Pratt, first and second place overall winners.

The following are the winners in the Urbanna Oyster Festival’s (UOF) Saturday, Nov. 4, Official Virginia State Oyster Shucking Competition at the Urbanna firehouse:

  • Overall winner — Robert Minor, Gwynn’s Island, adjusted time of 3:16.
  • Second — Deborah Pratt, Jamaica, adjusted time of 4:33.

In the men’s professional division, there were seven competitors.  Professionals shuck 24 oysters. The winners were:

  • First — Robert Minor, Gwynn’s Island, adjusted time of 3:41.
  • Second —  Ian Johnson, Norfolk, adjusted time of 3:50.
  • Third — Sam Davis, Urbanna, adjusted time of 3:51.

In the women’s professional division, there were three competitors. The winners were:

  • First — Deborah Pratt, Jamaica, adjusted time of 4:13.
  • Second — Hannah Bush, Manassas, adjusted time of 4:34.
  • Third — Jaime Southern-Kline, Norfolk, adjusted time of 4:39.

In the amateur division, there were 13 competitors. Amateurs shuck 12 oysters. The winners were:

  • First — Kasay Smith, Deltaville, adjusted time of 2:34.
  • Second — Bill Parrish, Virginia Beach, adjusted time of 2:37.
  • Third — LaRenz Christmas, Urbanna, adjusted time of 2:56.
