Public can sound off on Healy’s Mill Dam during Nov. 8 hearing

A public hearing is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, by the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) to consider recommending to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) the abandonment of a portion of Stormont Road (Route 629) over Healy’s Mill Dam. The hearing’s location is the Middlesex County Historic Courthouse.

The homeowners on the two ponds are concerned that the main dam may eventually break, leaving them high and dry with devalued property and damaged environmental quality of life that would come from living on a “mudflat” as one landowner put it at a town hall-style meeting conducted on the issue in September.

At the MCBS Oct. 3 regular monthly meeting, the board voted 5-0 to move forward with abandonment of the property. A first step in the process is to conduct a public hearing on the matter…
