Election Tuesday to decide who will fill posts

Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. is the last day to vote early at the Middlesex Elections Office, at 105 Bowden St. in Saluda, next to the new courthouse. Call 804-758-4420 for information. The elections office, and all county offices, will be closed for the Urbanna Oyster Festival on Nov. 3.

Several local offices will be on the ballot for the Tuesday, Nov. 7, general election. It will also include two General Assembly races.

Polls

Voting hours on Tuesday, Nov. 7, are 6 a.m.-7 p.m. at the following polls:

• Jamaica District — Hermitage Baptist Church, 94 Wares Bridge Road, Church View.
• Saluda District — Cooks Corner Office Complex public meeting room, 2911 General Puller Highway; and Urbanna United Methodist Church, 221 Marston Ave.
• Harmony Village District — Cryer Center, 7485 General Puller Highway, Harmony Village.
• Hartfield District —  Middlesex YMCA building, 11487 General Puller Highway, Hartfield.
• Pinetop District — Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad, 17684 General Puller Highway, Deltaville.

Identification

Virginia law requires all voters provide an acceptable form of identification when voting in person on Election Day and to vote in person by absentee ballot, said Middlesex Director of Elections Melissa Welch. Most voters will provide their DMV issued identification or their Voter Card. More information can be found on the Department of Elections website.

Provisional ballot

Those who missed the deadline to register to vote or update their voter registration may complete a Same Day Voter Registration (SDR) and vote a provisional ballot at the same time. Provisional ballots are not processed by a vote counting machine when voting, but rather are subject to approval by the Electoral Board prior to the ballot being counted. The Electoral Board will review and approve or deny the ballot based on research and evidence forwarded by the director of elections, said Welch.
