Middlesex “mobile library” now operating around county

A “Mobile Library” van arrived last week that will be used by the Middlesex County Public Library (MCPL) system to travel across the county to provide Wi-Fi to patrons in areas of the county with poor Internet service, books, DVDs and other materials.

Middlesex County is 40 miles long with two library branches, Deltaville and Urbanna within 20 miles of one another and another 20 miles from Urbanna to Laneview has no library in-between.

“We have a long county with older patrons and young families who have a hard time getting to either of our Deltaville or Urbanna branches,” said MCPL Executive Director Aaron Moore. “We see our new mobile library as a way to reach more people.”

Three major sponsors helped the library purchase the 2023 Mercedes-Benz van. The main funding came from the Library of Virginia, River Counties Community Foundation and Middlesex County Board of Supervisors…
