Christ Church Vets Luncheon set for Nov. 10

U.S. Marines from Fort Lee in Petersburg traversed to Cooks Corner on the way to Christ Church Parish to the final resting place of legendary U.S. Marine, Lieutenant General Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller — the most decorated Marine in the history of the Marine Corps. This is the 30th Marine run to honor Puller’s legacy and memory. “Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) has always been closely aligned with the military as Chesty Puller’s gravesite is in our cemetery and he was a long standing member of the church,” said church member Mary Lynn Landgraf, who is organizing a special Veterans Luncheon. The annual Christ Church Veterans Luncheon to honor area veterans is planned for 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the Christ Church Parish Hall building beside the church.

The first Veterans Luncheon was offered in 2016 and was initiated by Ann Padgett. “She said she thought it would be good for the entire community to annually honor our local veterans,” said Mary Lynn Landgraf, who is currently the church organizer of the luncheon.

The event is exclusively for veterans and the meal is free and there will be music, and a guest speaker. “Veterans are primarily invited from Middlesex County, but those living in adjoining counties are invited as well,” said Landgraf. “The event is only for veterans, no spouses, unless the spouse is a Vet or caregiver.”
