‘Together Unplugged’ to raise funds for cancer fight

Wedding vows conclude with these words, “so long as you both shall live.” For Bridget Weinberg the bond formed by this promise has lasted well beyond the time she and her late husband Kelly were married.

On Saturday, Oct. 21, from noon to 7 p.m. in the event field at the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department station (the Urbanna firehouse), the strength of the Weinberg’s bond will bring together many for “Together Unplugged,” a day of acoustic music, food and good times supporting those touched by cancer.

It’s all part of the Kelly Weinberg Foundation, which provides support “for cancer thrivers and survivors as well as caregivers, family, friends and those grieving the loss of a loved one,” explained Bridget Weinberg who created the foundation. “We hope Together Unplugged is a successful fundraising event and also brings awareness to our cause and services that we provide. I hope that all those that attend feel a sense of community through music and know that they are helping provide support to our cancer community.”

Community effort

Seven acoustic musicians are donating their time to the cause by performing live music. The stage is sponsored by Bodacious Bazaar, who has also provided a wine basket that includes three-day passes to Bodacious Bazaar on the weekend after the Urbanna Oyster Festival. Positive Pizza from Mathews will sell pizza by the slice, beer will be sold, Urbanna business, Something Different is donating its Brunswick stew; and Where The Sidewalk Ends is donating baked goods and beverages.

Local connection

Bridget chose Urbanna for the event for several reasons, she said. “It’s a beautiful town and one that many Virginians have never seen. I lived in Middlesex for five-plus years and fell in love with the people there and I made lifelong friends and connections. After living there and connecting with neighbors, our organization has had Middlesex residents reach out to us and have now become members of our support groups.”
