The monthly luncheon meeting of the Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck regional chapter of the Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society (VAHS) is set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Pilot House Inn restaurant. The Pilot House is adjacent to Hummel Field airport at 2737 Grey’s Point Road, Route 3, in Topping.
Mike Kenna is the meeting’s speaker. He spent 30 years in the United States Air Force with more than 4,000 hours flying time. Most of his flying time was in C-141 and C-5 planes.
Kenna will tell attendees about his experiences flying with the QU 22B Mission to support the Igloo White Mission in the Vietnam War in the late 1960s. This was Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara’s electronic line on the trail structure. It was a highly classified project. It was a new way to gather intelligence and monitor supply and troop traffic along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Try a web search using “QU 22B-Igloo White Mission” to get a taste of this incredible topic.
The chapter continues to meet at 11:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the Pilot House for lunch and a presentation of informative aviation programs. Everyone interested in aviation is invited to join the members at the Pilot House. Future planned programs will be announced later.
