Burrell’s is now Sunset Pt. Marina

New owners of Sunset Point Marina on Robinson Creek, Tricia and Jeremy Clark, recently purchased what was the old Burrell’s Marina and Railway, just outside of Urbanna.

The Clarks found Urbanna eight years ago when they bought a sailboat and rented a slip from John Mullins, former owner of Bridge Marina located at the foot of the Beryl Newman Memorial Bridge (Urbanna Bridge).

“We had a fantastic experience having a boat on Urbanna Creek,” said Jeremy. “With that and the kindness of the way the Mullinses treated us at the marina made us want to invest in Urbanna and Middlesex County. The Mullinses were very welcoming and we plan to be the same way at our marina.”

Tricia and Jeremy owned a farm in Hanover County, sold it, bought a farm in Topping and Sunset Point Marina. Several years ago, the marina was renovated and upgraded by the late Mrs. Betty Christian who owned Walesa Point, a large farm on Robinson Creek.

Burrell’s Marina and Railway

One of the most unique features of the marina is the old railway. In July, Jeremy had longtime railwayman George Butler of Reedville inspect the railway and the news was not good — Butler encouraged him to purchase a used Travelift rather than fix the railway.

With everything else we have going on here at the marina, it does not look promising that we are going to be able to keep the railway,” says Jeremy. “The railway has a great history but we are leaning towards finding other ways to serve our current clientele.”

Sunset Point Marina is at 792 Burrells Marina Road near Urbanna. For information, call 804-990-0034 or email sunsetpointurbanna@gmail.com.
