Middlesex Supervisor Koontz to step down

Move out of Hartfield Dist. prompts resignation; board can appoint a replacement

Hartfield Supervisor John Koontz informed the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) Tuesday, Oct. 3 at the board’s regular monthly meeting that he is resigning from the board as of Oct. 31.

Koontz said he is moving out of the Hartfield District into the Town of Urbanna, which means he can no longer represent that district on the MCBS.

Koontz is a second term board of supervisors member. He defeated incumbent Bob LeBeouf in 2017 and won a close race against Katie Carnes, a write-in candidate in 2021. He has two years and three months left on his current term.

“It has been a great pleasure to serve as a supervisor for Middlesex County,” he said. “I have so enjoyed living here and raising my family here. I look forward to working for the county as a civilian.”

The board of supervisors has the authority to appoint a replacement for Koontz until a special election can be scheduled.
