The Middlesex High School (MHS) football team (0-3, 0-0) lost to the Lancaster High School (LHS) Red Devils Friday 26-0, as the Chargers were just unable to get much offense going.

The Chargers had only 21 offensive yards on the ground and 16 yards in the air. Rowan Anderson rushed for 16 yards and Marshall Motley had five positive yards on the ground.

Lancaster and Middlesex offensives had but one first down apiece in the first quarter and that was it. The Red Devils, however, came alive in the second quarter as Brooks Parke scored with 5:27 left in the half on a 21-yard pass catch from quarterback Lamar Matt. LHS missed the extra point to make the score 6-0.

With 1:54 on the clock in the first half, running back Daveon Smith scored on an 80-yard run from scrimmage. LHS scored on a 2-point conversion to make the score 14-0.

Lancaster scored two more times, once in the third quarter and once in the fourth both on running plays as Matt and Smith scored on short yardage plays.

The Chargers will host the Rappahannock High School Raiders (1-2, 1-0) Friday night at the Chargers annual homecoming game on Bristow-Boxley Field, which is part of the Syd Thrift Athletic Complex in Saluda. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Due to the weather forecast for this Friday and the increased chance of rain and wind, other homecoming events at MHS have been moved to October 13.

The homecoming parade, presentation of the homecoming court, crowning of the king and queen, and the dance will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023.
As of Thursday, Sept. 21, Friday’s football game is still on at MHS. Check the MHS facebook page for more updates.
