Things look strong for this year’s Middlesex High School (MHS) girls and boys cross country teams, which train together and now share a coach — Jennifer Harrow.
MHS girl runners
MHS girls cross country returnees include senior Sophia Koontz and sophomores Makayla Moore and Elsie Koontz. Senior Kayleigh St. John is returning after a year off, but is starting the season with a running injury. She went to states her sophomore year.
New MHS girl runners include senior Bethany Withers and freshmen Aleena Reza and Stephanie Pettyjohn.
“I see a strong potential for the girls to make it to the states,” MHS Cross Country Coach Harrow told the Sentinel. “We need to heal our one injury and hope no more occur. The three returners from last year had a strong improvement during last year and I hope they will continue.”
MHS boy runners
Middlesex High School (MHS) boys cross country returnees include juniors, Thomas Dobb, Dylan Janisko, Matthew Lowe, Joseph Rowe, Cody Walsh, Landon Cable; sophomores, Gunnar Marston, Chris Butler, Bishop Hanscom; and freshman, Victor Reyes.
New MHS boy runners include juniors, Aiden Eanes, Tucker Campbell, Zach Deagle; sophomores, Aden Calderin, Carter Hurd, Brennan Williams, Matthew Morris; and freshmen, Darius Jones, Connor Graulich and Trenit Walden.
The boys lost some strong runners last year that took them to states, according to Coach Harrow, who is entering her 10th year coaching cross country at MHS. “Your first five runners are your main scorers and three of those were seniors and a sophomore that decided last year would be his only year,” she said. “With that said, they are bringing back their number two runner last year, number one for this year so far, and have some talented new runners that I think will push some of our seasoned runners.”
Coach Harrow said she sees the MHS boy runners main strength as their desire to win and the way they push each other to be better.
