Topping author Helen Montague Foster to present at Woman’s Club on Oct. 17

The book clubs of the Middlesex County Woman’s Club and the Middlesex County Public Library (MCPL) system will host Topping author Helen Montague Foster for a discussion of her newly published novel, “The Silent Hen,” on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Woman’s Club building (the colonial courthouse) at 210 Virginia St. in Urbanna. The discussion is open to the community and other local book clubs are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.

“The Silent Hen” is fiction based on actual events of World War II, written by Helen Montague Foster as a tribute to her parents and the other courageous men and women of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), whose secret struggles and relationships continue to impact the world. 

The morally complex story follows a Jewish child named Bella who is sheltered by a Muslim couple in Nazi occupied Yugoslavia and a Virginia woman named Lucy…
